Healthy Hair Secrets: Argan Oil Hair Mask and More For Smooth, Long, Healthy Hair

Hey babes! I wanted to let you in on a secret of mine that has been working wonders for my hair. For some background on my own hair, it is very fine, but it is long and I have a lot of it. Throughout grades 9-11, I found that I did a lot of damage on my hair. I would wash it every single day, dye it more than once a year, and use heat on it at least 5 days a week. Back then, I didn't realize how much damage I was doing and how negatively it would affect my hair in the long run. In the last two years or so, I've changed up the way I treat my hair quite a bit. I'm now loving my natural hair, and how healthy it is after using these tips. Here are some of my healthy hair secrets to grow your hair long, silky, and healthy!

This is my natural hair colour and texture (wavy, light brown/red), looking so much healthier than it used to!

1. Do not wash your hair everyday!
I understand, I really do. When you wake up and see that greasy mess on top of your head, you want to go straight to the shampoo to fix it. But that's where the root of greasy hair will stem from. Shampoo's dry out scalp, and because of this, your hair will produce more oil than usual to compensate for the lack of moisture. So if you can go as long as possible without a hair wash, you will find your hair getting healthier, because you will allow your natural oils to nourish your hair, since you will not be washing them out. A benefit of this is that over time, your hair will become greasy a lot slower, and you will find you will be able to go more days without washing that you used to.

2. Oils
Again, oil is a big component when it comes to hair health. I've been using hair oils since I was 12, and I believe that's why my hair did not become as damaged as it could have been over the years. Every day that I wash my hair, I wait until my hair becomes damp after I come out of the shower and apply argan oil to the ends of my hair. This will nourish your ends, preventing split ends and making your hair look a lot shiner! You only need a little drop, or else your hair may look too greasy. You can use many other oils on your hair, not just argan oil, it is just my personal preference. Coconut oil is also very nourishing

3. Scalp Massages
Your scalp needs some love too! Giving yourself a scalp massage one-two times a week will help stimulate hair growth. The best way to do this is to massage it with oil, so that you're moisturizing the scalp, making your hair grow healthier. Below, I'll tell you how I do my at-home scalp massage

Argan Oil Hair Mask
What you need: Oil (of your choice) and that is all!
What to do: apply a generous amount of oil into your palms. Massage your head from the front towards the back, and don't forget about near your temples. Really try to work the oil into your scalp and hair. I like to sleep with the oil in my hair over night, so I do the massage usually before bed
When to apply mask: 1-2 times a week on second/third day hair, or the night before you wash it

4. Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
I will not explain the whole thing in this post, because I will dedicate a WHOLE blog post to my favourite beauty/health product, apple cider vinegar. It has so many benefits! I will tell you here, though, about my hair rinse. Apple cider vinegar will remove build up of hair products, making your hair clean and soft. You'll find it will be so soft, you won't even need to use conditioner!

Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse
What you need: Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (Bragg's is a good brand). You want to purchase the kind with the mother (I will explain what this is in the future post), a spray bottle/bottle of any kind, and water.
What to do: Mix 1 part ACV with 1 part water and pour into your bottle. After you wash your hair in the shower, pour the rinse onto your hair and allow it to sit from 3-5 minutes, or longer if you prefer. Rinse thoroughly. I know your hair will smell awful, but the smell disappears when your hair dries!
When to apply rinse:1-2 times a week, even more if you prefer.

So there you go babes! Those are all of my hair secrets, that have made my hair healthy, long and shiny.
